Premarital Counseling
Preparation for a strong and satisfying marriage“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
Lao Tzu
Are You Engaged? Planning a Wedding?
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Your decision to seek premarital counseling speaks highly of your desire to lay a solid foundation for your marriage. According to studies, couples who attend premarital counseling experience stronger marriages than other couples.
What Can You Expect? Premarital counseling will raise your awareness of issues that may arise in your marriage. Some of these issues may be occurring now.
I offer a safe and confidential place to talk about your beliefs, fears, hopes and dreams. Best of all, you will learn even more about your future spouse and develop the skills to address these issues openly. This experience will help you enter marriage with the confidence that you will be able to meet future challenges while building a deep and satisfying relationship.
In the first session, you will assess your strengths as a couple and your areas for growth. This will lay the groundwork for subsequent exploration in a collaborative manner.
Issues we will explore:
- How can we enhance communication and listening in order to increase intimacy?
- What does it mean to meet your partner’s most important emotional needs?
- How do you avoid destructive behaviors that might sabotage the relationship?
- What are your expectations of each other’s marital roles?
- How does your family-of-origin enter into the relationship?
- What are your expectations around finances, sex, children and my faith tradition?
“Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”
Kahlil Gibran
